Math Explorers

The first graders did some exploring in math this week.  They were able to explore using pattern blocks, geo boards and base 10 blocks.  These are some of the math manipulatives that they will be using in math.

The students were introduced to the calendar and thermometer this week in math.  They worked together to see the similarities and differences between 2 calendars.

The class worked hard on building their stamina for Work on Writing.  We discussed different writing topics and talked about what students should look and sound like when they are writing.  Ask your child what they should do when they don't know how to spell a word.  Work on Writing is the 2nd station for the Daily 5.

The class celebrated two birthdays in August.

  • It is List 3 for spelling this week.  The test will be on Friday.
  • We are going to finish up our first unit in math this week. Please continue to look in your child's take home folder for homework.
  • We will start testing on the level words this week, so be sure to have your child practice at home.
  • August reading calendars are due on September 3rd.  The goal for this month is to read 20 minutes on 20 different days.
